Old versions of Thunderbird may also have a checkbox for "User name and password". I suspect that bend broadband has an issue, they also may not be supporting Mozilla any more. If so, is there any alternative to circunvent the problem? This was a very common problem before the GUI was improved in Thunderbird 1.5. In the Outgoing Server settings, Username was set to ***** instead of *****@aol.com. The result is mail coming from domestic computers that have been turned into spam bots is rejected out of hand. SOLUTION: I found the answer indirectly using Mozilla support. I dont want to get rid of thunderbird but it is not working. Even after a few days ago when I upped again this time to 184.108.40.206 the problem persisted. The DNS lookup failed.
