This works fine but then it updates! Also change imap.googlemail.com to imap.gmail.com. when a solution is found. This is most likely to occur with a email provider using a IMAP server that is not very compatible, such as Gmail.  If none of this helps, you need to Do you have a gmail account?

Says that for ThunderBird, in Outlook I believe it says something to the effect of not being able to grab the folders. I have tried going back to an older version and turning updates off.

Go to Preferences > Advanced and click on the 'config editor' button. when i click on [sent] folder, i get the same message as above, but none of the sent messages from before are displayed. message telling me that the server is not an imap4 server.

You may have specified a port normally used for POP or SMTP, for IMAP; or, you may have selected TLS or no encryption for a port that requires SSL. I sent a message, and it eventually showed up in the "Sent" folder. everyday and every week the same now... and it all goes wrong again.

I run TLS secured IMAP on port 143 and HTTPS on port 443 with the same, self-signed certificate. Did you mess with the server settings? Having Lightning *disabled*, IMAP synchronization just works fine as it should - and did in the past. It does appear to be timeout related.
