I've done several backups by using back up now button so there is no apparent problems with the 1TB backup firewire drive or my Mac Pro HD. I shortened the procedure to: In System Preferences:Time Machine, click Options and remove any drives you can (certain drives are permanently added.) Then turn Time Machine "Off" and quit System Preferences. Guess it's just one of those things with computers that can't really be explained. For example, you can use it to simply mount a drive in Finder/ Windows Explorer (similar to Dot Mac/Me).

All good.tried running Verify Disk Permissions. After ten hours I shut down the system.[Off button]Rebooted from install disk and ran Verify Disk. What version of Mac OSX is installed ? I re-re-re-set permissions.
