I have finally have gotten rid of this by increasing the ‘sparse band size' as specified below. Just reconnect Time Machine and it should work. This will show if ANY process on your OS X is accessing the file.

You can check for activity by tail'ing the fsck_hfs.log tail -f /var/log/fsck_hfs.log If fsck is going then in my experience it will be able to repair the sparsebundle. I must update it.
